What are the effects of pleurodesis?

Adhesion of membrane: Pleurodesis creates adhesion of the two opposing plueral membranes in the cavity that supports the lung.

Stem pleural: Effusion accumulation that causes shortness of breath and cough. The fluid needs to be drained dry, and the surface physically or medically abraided to cause the surface to stick and keep the lung fully expanded.

Breathing: Pleurodesis fuses lung lining to chest wall lining to prevent recurrence of air (pneumothorax) or fluid (effusion) in chest cavity. Pleurodesis is used to maintain lung expansion, help breathing, and alleviate shortness of breath. Modern thoracic surgeons will use vats (minimally invasive techniques).

Resolving a problem: A pleurodesis eliminates the space between the surface of the lung and the inside of the chest wall. This is usually done for fluid accumulation, or a persistent air leak. It can be done with chemicals or by directly irritating the inside chest wall. Overall, it is a very successful technique.
