Limit carb intake: Most women with gestational diabetes are more insulin-resistant in the morning , so they need to eat lower amounts of carb at breakfast than at lunch or dinner, in order to maintain post-meal sugar control. Many patients need to limit <30 gm of carb at breakfast to keep post-meal glucose <130. Consider good protein such as egg white, turkey sausage, peanut butter, low-fat cheese for breakfast use.

Oatmeal: You want starches that are low in glycemic index (release sugars slowly), and low fat proteins. Oatmeal would be a great choice, poi (if you are in hawai'i), egg whites, or plain yogurt. Berries and melons are also excellent low glycemic index fruits.
