After a parathyroidectomy, would you have calcium deficiency?

Calcium: Sometimes early after parathyroid surgery, a person's calcium can get low, causing temporary symptoms of muscle weakness or muscle spasms. It depends on how long ago your surgery was. Temporary uses of calcium supplements may be indicated. Call and check with your surgeon.

For a short time: Usually after a pararhyroidectomy the blood levels of calcium of a patient are low until the other glands remaining wake up and produce sufficient levels of parathyroid hormone. During this time i put all my patients after surgery on supplementation so their calcium levels don't get dangerously low.
