Not bad with Essure: Female sterilization can now be done in the office with a local block. It's the same set-up as a pap smear, most patients feel only mild cramps & leave for home without any problems. Ask your gyn for more info or look up essure.Com. It's a good way to avoid general anesthesia, incisions, or the usual risks of surgery. And, more effective long term! (ps-vasectomy is even less uncomfortable for you).

Depends on type : Female sterilization is common. It may be done by a minor surgery called laparoscopy. It requires general anesthesia and a small incision in your belly button. A camera is inserted & gas used to fill the pelvic cavity. The tubes are then occluded. Recovery is 1week. Another method is incision-less, local anesthia, & can be done in office (essure). Recovery is 24 hrs, & less risk. Picture=essure.
