Balance organ: The inner ear contains both the organ of hearing and an older system called the vestibular system. Injury to the vestibular system usually causes the symptom of vertigo (spinning sensation). This critical system normally functions to orient your head in space and head to the rest of the body. Probably, the most common reason for an injury to this balance system is a viral infection.
