Drugs: Most tests are looking for evidence of illicit drug use, marijuana Cocaine etc. Along with alcohol and narcotics. Other drugs may be tested for but the main reason is not to find out what medicines you take but to ensure that you are not using any illicit drugs.

Deter: The principle behind federal drug testing when it began in the 1980's was to deter, not to punish and so "cutoff' levels were established above the levels of detection which are well below the cutoff. Federal testing is restricted to five categories of drugs while non-federal testing is given leeway to test for a multitude of drugs limited only by the cost involved.
