Is type 1 diabetes preventable?

Not at present : Type 1 dm results from a quirky process. You have a virus, your body makes antibodies that run the virus off, but the antibodies also start attacking your Insulin producing glands and scar them. The gland slows & stops making insulin. The same virus may attack 10, 000 people and get the quirky response in only 1. Vaccines to prevent the virus might help but none are available at present

Not Yet: Type one is a cruel autoimmune phenomena in which your immune system attacks your pancreas until it's " dead" so to speak. There is a research study called " trial net" where first degree relatives can have their blood screened for these antibodies, and there are studies ongoing now for early intervention therapies, there is some exciting progress here, but trial net is your best bet!
