Like hospitals : Just like hotels private hospitals differ in luxury amenities provided. However, they all have a common goal which is to treat patients and restore them to full functioning and provide a safe environment.

Private Hosp: Private psych hospitals i hope are better but most psych hospitals unfortunately are not given lot of importance by ceo's etc compared to cardiac, surgery and other branches of medicine that make more money and are usually not very modern or clean.

Matter of economics: Great question. It is a matter of economics. Reimbursement by insurance companies, medicare and medicaid for psychiatric hospitals is poor compared to most other specialties. Consequently the only psychiatric hospitals that you will find are like nice hotels are the ones that do not accept any insurance coverage or only limited insurance coverage.
