Yea: Metformin will mot cause hypoglycemia, so a meter is not absolutely a must. However, a meter will help you and your doctor determine the effectiveness of your treatment.

Yes: It is technically safe because metformin does not cause hypoglycemia. However, I have all of my diabetic patients check their blood sugar at home.
