Non specific: An ANA can certainly and most likely positive in lupus. However, it can be seen in many rheumatic diseases and other illnesses. Anas can be seen in normal people also. However more specific tesing can be more helpful and more specifc for lupus. They include a sm or smith antibody which is specific for lupus. A high dsdna and low C3 and C4 are again good tests for lupus. Other tests exist also.
