See a cardiologist: Most people with mitral valve prolapse can have it very mild and can have no symptoms and are not at any significantly increased risk of heart problems. However, if there is significant prolapse and/or leakage of blood (mitral regurgitation), one can be at increased risk of shortness of breath, heart failure, chest pain, palpitations and arrhythmias. If you have these symptoms, see your doctor.
