Eat right, exercise: Eat proper foods and in proper amounts, exercise frequently and keep an eye on the blood pressure, and cholesterol levels as well as blood sugar from time to time. The last three are usually checked by the child's pediatrician when it is time to do so.

Common Sense: Get them started on good habits: regular exercise, a healthy diet low in simple sugars and high in vegetables, maintain a healthy weight, and be positive and social. The influence of the parents or caregivers is very high.
