A member asked:

My 3 year old satrted having diarrhea last night, with cramps and mild fever, a little blood in her stool, should i take her to the doc?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Blood in stool: This pattern is consistent with several forms of infectious diarrhea. This can include the bacteria salmonella, shigella, e.Coli & viruses. I would routinely obtain a stool culture on such a case as treatment varies. This can managed at home for a while if the child is taking fluids well & playful, but an office visit is worthwhile when blood is found in the stool or the child is pretty uncomforta.
