There are Many: While the medical model for depression, which places a strong emphasis on biochemistry, is necessary, it has drawbacks. It causes some people to feel helpless in doing anything to help their symptoms, despite the benefits of some lifestyle changes. It also locates the cause of the depression as inside the person, when sometimes powerful external forces ('isms) set the stage for it to manifest.
