300-500 Kcal.: A pregnant woman should consume 300-500 more kcals daily to allow for the fetus' energy needs. Lactation actually requires >500-700 kcals more than the non-pregnant state, as it places increasing demands on the maternal metabolism (may not be an intuitively obvious fact).
