What kind of condition is drug addiction?

Addiction: 20% of the population get a different than normal euphoric response to many medications and illegal drugs. The withdrawal from the drug causes moderate to severe discomfort which is solved by more drug. Most addicts require more and more drug due to upregulation of the drug receptors and resort to more aggressive and illegal tactics to obtain them. Cure is not currently possible, treatment helps.
