Depends on MI: Many mental illnesses tend to "run true, " so having a schizophrenic relative increases your risk for schizophrenia. However, a number of illness (e.g., depression, anxiety, conduct disorders, adhd) all may increase one's risk for substance abuse because of increased impulsivity and life dissatisfaction. Fh of alcoholism and/or substance abuse definitely increase one's risk.
