Depends: It really depends on how it is used and how old the patient is. If the patient is elderly and relatively sedentary, one prosthesis may last a lifetime. For a younger patient who is active, plays sports etc, they may need replacements every 5 years or so. Often there is remodeling of the residual limb so that a first prosthesis may not fit well after several months and will need to be revised.
