A member asked:

How is the prostate removed? pieces or intact?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Transurethral resection of the prostrate (TURP) removes pieces of the prostate gland through the urethra mainly to reduce the size and open up a wider passage way for the urine to flow out of the bladder - usually done for benign prostate hypertrophy. Radical prostatectomy removes the entire prostate gland intact as much as possible - a procedure used for cancer.
