Several steps.: Nephrostomy tubes are most often placed by interventional radiologists (ir). First, you may receive a mild sedative. Ir uses fluoroscopes to find the kidney. The skin at the site of the tube is numbed with local anesthetic. A needle is placed through the skin and into the kidney's urinary space. A wire is guided into the kidney, the needle removed, and then the nephrostomy tube is deployed.

Nephrostomy: During nephrostomy tube placement, the patient is positioned on their stomach on a fluoroscopic table. Sedation medications are administered through an iv. Local anesthesia is administered, and a needle is inserted into the kidney. A wire is inserted through the needle and the tract is dilated over the wire. Finally, the tube is placed into the renal pelvis, secured, and connected to a bag.
