Genetic testing: Chorionic villous sampling represents one of the earliest available methods to accurately diagnose genetic abnormalities such as down's syndrome. While most, if not all, of these defects are not curable, it does give the patient the earliest opportunity to decide on whether to continue the pregnancy.
