Special cases.: Urine cultures for viruses are uncommon tests that are performed to confirm the presence of a viral infection. Viruses are much more difficult to detect in urine than bacterial infections, and special assays must be performed. Infections with adenovirus, cytomegalovirus, and mumps can be detected in the urine.
