Hysterectomy: The number of hysterectomies has declined steadily over the years. There are many more less invasive treatments now available for uterine pathologies, such as embolization for large uterine fibroids, ablation and Mirena (levonorgestrel) for excessive uterine bleeding, hysteroscopic treatment for intrauterine growth, etc.. New therapies in the pipeline will further reduce the need for hysterectomy.
