Yes and no: Menopause will happen. The diagnosis is made when Estradiol levels are below 40 and follicle stimulating hormone levels are above 40. However, most women have ovarian dysfunction starting around age 35 which leads to low levels and imbalances of estrogen and progesterone. Symptoms may be present for 15-20 years prior to the onset of ovarian failure (i.e. Menopause).
