What increases the risk for type 2 diabetes in families?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Genetics, lifestyle: Families share some of the same genetics, and often many of the same habits as well. Certain families & ethnic groups are very prone to diabetes (latinos, native americans, african-americans, and many asians). Risk also increases with less exercise, being overweight, and eating a lot of processed carbs (white flour & sugar), all of which are habits usually learned at home and within the family.
