Dr. Scott Bolhack
Wound care 35 years experience
Origin of Vasculitis: Vasculitis can be caused by many types of underlying illnesses or be the primary illness. Scientists are not exactly sure why some patients develop this type of inflammation and others do not. The best we can do is tell the patient that it is a combination of underlying disease, genetics, and other ill-defined factors (nutrition, infections, etc).
A 21-year-old member asked:

My doctor diagnosed me with porphyria but the porphyria expert said I did not have it. why would this happen and should I be retested?

2 doctor answers5 doctors weighed in
Dr. Gregg Albers
Addiction Medicine 41 years experience
Porphyria: Your doctor may have based his or her opinion on your symptoms, while the specialist bases his or her opinion on the tests, the only way to know if the symptoms are from porphyria. The specialist may have some other ideas and tests to help you with your problem. You are always welcome to get a second opinion, with any unsolved health problem.
