How important is it to have a doctor who is doing cancer research?

Depends: It may be important for a person seeking care for cancer. However, cancer is a large group of diseases, and doing research in one area would not provide an advantage in treating other cancers. If the illness is not cancer, e.g., heart disease, cancer research credentials would not be relevant.
