Heart Healthy: Any cardiac patient should be on a diet low in saturated and trans fats, higher in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (the omega 3 fatty acids, such as in fish oil and flax seed), high in fiber (25 to 30 grams daily), low in salt (2000mg daily on average), low in simple sugars, and sufficient in lean sources of proteins.

Healthy: Low is saturated fat ( less than 10% of all calories) high in unsaturated fats 10-15% of all calories complex carbohydrates with whole grains, legumes fresh fruits and vegetables as 65% of the calories in the diet. Protein from fish, lean meats, etc as 10-20% of the diet. Aim for 5-7 fresh fruits and vegetables a day and 20-30 g of fiber a day.
