Doctor clearance: It would be important to have your doctor certify that it is safe to begin the rehab. That would mean that there are no acute problems that could result in complications such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, anemia, unstable chest pain, etc. Commonly, some kind of stress test is also done prior to starting the rehab. And the doctor can also recommend how much exercise is safe.

Cardiac rehab: A baseline treadmill stress test is useful to provide an exercise prescription. This helps tell us the boundaries that can be safely set for an exercise workload for a particular patient. This will vary from patient to patient. It is also something that we can measure progress against over time.
