Usually: Once the body has been exposed to something and has made an antibody, it is primed to respond more quickly and dramatically the next time it is exposed to that substance. The tendency is for each subsequent reaction to be worse. So once a drug allergy, for example, is identified, we recommend not taking it again because of the fear of anaphylaxis which is life-threatening.
