Cold urticaria: Hives occurring while exposed to cold or while warming up after cold exposure are in a class of non-allergic conditions called physical urticaria. No allergy antibodies are involved. Antihistamines taken 30-60 minutes before exposure may help. Swimming in cold ocean water can be fatal for those with cold urticaria.

Urticaria: Cold Inducted Urticaria. This means that your cells are releasing histamines into your blood stream when you are exposed to the cold/ Your body is overly sensitive to the cold.
