Glycerin suppository: If a 5 month old has been pushing when pooping, or pooping firm poops, a parent can try giving the child 2-3 ounces of regular prune juice, half prune / half apple juice, or plain apple juice. A glycerin suppository can help, and can be tried first, especially in babies don't drink juice (some babies gag on juice). If the constipation is ongoing, the doctor can evaluate and offer more ideas.
