Depends : The severity of the periodontal problem may affect pregnancy. Early periodontal disease that is readily and easily treated would not be as much of a factor. A more severe periodontal problem, such as an abscess requiring more aggressive treatment with antibiotics, and/or extraction of a tooth could definitely affect a pregnant patient.

Be Cautious: Severe periodontal disease can put you at risk of having a premature birth/delivery. On the other hand, pregnancy can lower your resistance to periodontal disease. Make sure you stay with good dental cleanings and are brushing/flossing daily. If you are not yet pregnant, have any areas that need treatment treated before you get pregnant.
