Not entirely: What appears inherited is a vulnerability towards the depression and/or suicide. Think of depression as a 3-legged stool - the 3 legs being inherited vulnerability, psychological resilience and environmental stress. The vulnerability does not get activated without a deficit of resilience and/or excess of stress. Hope this helps. If you or a loved one is struggling, please seek help asap.
