Can you describe the maze procedure for atrial fibrillation?

MAZE and afib: In its earliest form, this was a very involved and high risk open heart surgical procedure. Over the years it has been refined to the point where it is much less risky and is often performed as part of other types of cardiac surgery. Catheter-based techniques are also used to treat afib in a less invasive way but should be performed by an experienced cardiac electrophysiologist.
