A member asked:

What percentage of births result in a healthy baby?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

>95%: Overall about 2% of normal births have some defect. In some women with illness, on drugs, or with bad family history, the percentage goes way up. Good healthy women with no genetic risks still have about 2 to 5 % risk for some defect. Infections during pregnancy, toxemia, placental defects, trauma, etc may occur even in the best of efforts to be a perfect mother.
