One theory...: There is a theory that near-sightedness is made worse by repeated accommodation, the process of bringing an image up close to see. The more one reads up close, the faster the near-sightedness develops. With this theory, one should hold all reading material at arms-length to minimize accommodation, and thereby, decrease the progression of near-sightedness.
