A member asked:

Is diabetes considered an epidemic worldwide?

8 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Yes!: Specifically, type 2 diabetes. Anywhere in the world where a "western diet" (high in carbohydrates and fat) has been introduced, rates of type 2 diabetes and obesity are increasing significantly. This even occurs in some populations where type 2 diabetes was never heard of before this type of diet came to town!

Absolutely: It used to be primarily in "wealthy", industrialized countries - think of the g8. However, due to increased wealth in more countries and these countries emulating everything done in the U.S. (including the horrid diet), they are no getting diabetes in record numbers. Look at eastern europe, india, china, and the middle east. It's worldwide now - a global epidemic - called a pandemic.
