A member asked:

What re the dangers of jaundice in an infant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Kernicterus: By far, most infants with jaundice are fine and get over it without difficulty. If, however, it gets really severe, the infant can get something called kernicterus, which refers to yellow staining of the brain, and leads to severe, lifelong physical problems. That's why we as physicians check to make sure jaundice doesn't get too severe, and why we treat it when we suspect it might.
