Fever & headache: Only 1/2 recall a tick bite; sudden onset fever and headache, chills, muscle aches-usually w/in 2 days after a tick bite but can be as long as 14 days. If no bite recalled, recent hiking or exposure to ticks is important. 1st symptoms are vague & patient may return a few times before rash points to diagnosis. Rash 1st on wrists/ankles as spots then spreads. 30% though have no rash-so always think!
