Decrease effective: Alcohol with zosyn (piperacillin and tazobactam), (piperacillin and tazobactam) decreases the effectiveness of the antibiotic and increase its side effects. Most often zosyn (piperacillin and tazobactam) is given in a hospital setting, and the likelyhood of consuming alcohol is almost nil in the hospital.

No: No problem taking penicillin class antibiotics with alcohol but keep it to a minimum if at all. If you have a significant infection it would be best to abstain until the infection has resolved.
