Atelectasis: The most common cause of elevated temps for the first three days post op is atelectasis, which is a retraction of the lung felt to be related to the anesthetic. Some patients may report night sweats rather than fever, which are the bodies way to try to lower its body temp. If you are not doing it, make sure you are using an incentive spirometer.
