A member asked:

My sis is 31. she is a patient of sle with unstable hb. even now she is on dialysis. her hb is not increasing > 4.0? even after several transfusions.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

May be not due to SL: People with SLE can have anemia due to many reasons. People on dialysis will need to boost their hemoglobulin and her physicians can give her epogen (epoetin alfa) and similar medications. Lupus can be involved here? Lupus can cause lower HGB by damaging the RBCS - We call this hemolysis. They can low blood due to intestinal bleeding, due to other medication. Renal failure decreases lupus activity
