Tobrex (tobramycin): Chlorampenical carries a small risk of blood dyscrasia whereas tobrex (tobramycin) has almost no side effects. If you have had an infection diagnosed, your ophthalmologist (not an optometrist i hope!) will prescribe the appropriate eyedrop. Chloramphenicol is practically unavailable in the usa and so you would have to what several days for the pharmacy to order it.

Part of treatment: Use of tobradex (tobramycin and dexamethasone) is a combination of antibiotic and steroid which helps treat infection portion of sty and manage inflammation. This plus adequate drainage is often effective. You should see a local opthalmologist to manage. Prolonged use of tobradex (tobramycin and dexamethasone) is not recommended due to risk of fungal infections, etc in the eye. Both are used by some physician with similar results. Trobrex no steroid.
