A member asked:

I've started a plant based low fat diet, but it prohibits all fats, even natural fats. are fats needed? is a lack of fats bad for my health?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fats are essential: Good fats are critical for health. Your brain operates on fat, not glucose like the rest of the body. Naturally occurring vegetarian fats such as nuts, avocados, seeds, olive oil are great and if only eating a vegetarian diet, you will need more. Plant based diets are great if done well which means eating real vegetables, some fruit, lots of nuts and seeds, and minimizing the carbs to 3/day
