A member asked:

My chem 7 lab, anion gap level is 3. what is this and what does this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unmeasured anions: The anion gap looks at anions in the blood that are not directly measured by the chemistry screen. It is a calculation of the Sodium level minus the sum of chloride and bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) (CO2). It is only of significance if it is high (above 16)
