Possibly in the food: There are fat substitutes that are poorly or not absorbed and thus pass thru the digestive system and can be present in the stool. A good example is Olestra, which has the same taste and mouthfeel as fat, but it passes through the gastrointestinal tract undigested without contributing calories or nutritive value to the diet. More popular in snacks such as potato chips, it can be found elsewhere
