After missed period: A urine pregnancy test done correctly will give a reliable result a week after missing a period, or 3 weeks after sex (when conception might have occurred). There is no need to do the test sooner, but if it is too early (such as less than 2 weeks after sex) and has a negative result, the woman often ends up repeating the test a few days or a week later.

Hpt: If you have been sexually active and have missed your period then you can go ahead and take a home pregnancy test (HPT) now. If negative and still no period would repeat HPT in a week. Take care.
