NSAIDS or: The most available are nsaids (like acetominaphen, ibuprofen, naproxsyn). Their side effects can include liver and kidney trouble, ulcers or stomach bleeding. Other prescription medications that can be considered are Gabapentin & tramadol, cymbalta, (duloxetine) depending on the cause of the pain.

Depends on your pain: There are many classes of pain medications, and narcotics are just one. A good place to start is Acetaminophen (tylenol). Nsaids (ibuprofen, motrin, aleve, (naproxen) advil) are good for pain caused by inflammation, but be careful if you have stomach, kidney, or bleeding problems. There are other classes such as antidepressants/anticonvulsants that your doctor may consider prescribing for pain.
