Meds: Depens (penicillamine) for what you are taking, also depens (penicillamine) on dose of both of them. But safest at least 8hours, best after meal.

Effect on baby: Aspirin and Ibuprofen are related anti-inflammatory pain medicines. They should be avoided in pregnancy, especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters because they can close an important valve in the baby's heart. This valve normally closes at the time of birth which is why they can be taken post-partum. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is a pain reliever that does not have this effect on the baby and is safe in pregnancy.

A 26-year-old male asked:

I just started getting severe pain in my lower left molar that goes away with advil (ibuprofen). I think it is my wisdom tooth. Is that dangerous/fatal/treatable?

No, no and yes: Tooth pain generally is not dangerous but should be evaluated by a dentist. We don't want infections to go untreated, in case your symptoms are from an infection. Besides, seeing a dentist early may prevent more extensive work later on.

A 36-year-old female asked:

If a person with a mild to medium sprained ankle does no treatment but waits 2 weeks, will the result be the same as if he had iced & taken motrin?

Most likely: In most cases, a sprained ankle will heal no matter what you do or don't do. Ice and Motrin can help with the discomfort, but typically they do not change the outcome.

A 46-year-old female asked:

My son had his wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. He is now running a 101.1 fever. Can I give his motrin while he is on oxycodone?

You can but caution: Oxycodone, often given in combo with Acetaminophen (tylenol (acetaminophen)) and generally known as Percocet for pain control in situation such as dental extraction here. The tylenol (acetaminophen) should help with fever, but may not be enough (often 325mg). So, you can add another plain tylenol (acetaminophen) 325mg or motrin, but must monitor closely as infection is a concern and follow-up with the dentist is recommended. Good luck.
